Sylcan (Digital Knitting Pattern)
Sylcan (Digital Knitting Pattern)
Sometimes a simple texture is all you need for a great sock. Sylcan is a beginner-friendly sock pattern that is a great way to leap a basic vanilla sock to something with a tad more pep, without getting overwhelmed or lost in the flow of the pattern. Sylcan also makes for a great potato chippy knit for more intermediate sock knitters, perfect for lounging around the poor in summer, watching your favourite TV show, or while at a sporting event.
Note: This is a digital knitting pattern for you to download and print at home. No physical pattern will be shipped.
Worked in the round, this sock pattern contains both cuff-down and toe-up written directions and a chart for the pattern stitch. The pattern has directions for a peasant heel (afterthought heel using scrap yarn), but you may substitute whatever heel you enjoy using (links included for alternatives).
The pattern is written for the magic loop method for knitting socks; however, the design could be worked on double-pointed needles or mini-circulars instead should you prefer (ensure you denote your instep stitches with extra markers – so you don’t miss the placement of the heel or toe shaping).
This sock pattern shines well with self-striping, solid, semi-solid, lightly variegated, or speckled yarns. Picking an appropriate yarn for this project will ensure the yarn and the pattern are not in competition with one another, rather they're working together to create something magical.
